According to Mehr News Agency, quoting IRIB, Nasser Moghaddassi, considering the plan to stop industrial and commercial exploitation of the northern forests was the first step implementation of the strategic plan, said, “The forest breathing plan include a set of policies, the implementation of programs and measures which will lead the fragile, vulnerable and unstable forest toward sustainable conditions and promotion of quantitative and qualitative indicators to face the current and future threats.”
The deputy director of Forest, Rangeland and Watershed Organization added, “68 exploitation contracts at 580,000 hectares have already been terminated and the other ones are about to be terminated,”
On the raw materials of the factories and wood and paper industries, he stated, “The supply of the wood for the industries should be prepared from the alternative sources of wood, especially agricultural wastes as well as the development of plantation for timber, and the imports so that the existing ancient Hirkani forests, which are in an unstable situation, will be fully protected for the purpose of the vital functions,”
